Our McDonald’s McCrispy Strips Food Commercial Production x Tzi Ma
In our latest collaboration with IWG, the Tiger House Films commercial production team came together to create a dynamic food commercial production for McDonald’s to celebrate the launch of their brand new McCrispy Strips. This series of commercial TVC spots hi-lights the dynamic of a Chinese – American family in a comedic, witty concept written by IWG’s Telly Wong and directed by the talented Patrick Tom. Our cast consists of amazing comedic actors and stars the incredible Tzi Ma as “Grandpa” who is known for many roles throughout his storied career including in blockbuster features such as Rush Hour and Mulan.
This particular culturally specific comedic style of commercial has become very popular for major brands in the past few years that look to target niche audiences with relatable branded content. Our shoot was produced in Los Angeles on a studio set over a period of two days. Our first day was to pre-light and set up culturally specific art design elements as well as set frames and on set color profiles. The second day was purely for the execution of two separate spots as well as social cuts shot separately on an iPhone.
Working with professional actors allows for some off the cuff moments that did end up making it into our final output in post production. Comedy in particular is a genre that is notoriously hard to nail down due to the subtle nature of comedic timing and tone. Our fantastic cast and professional food commercial production crew were able to work quickly and create magic within a very short period of time from pre-production through post.
We are looking forward to working with IWG and McDonald’s on future campaigns and hope to create some more memories with them in the near future!
